Nepenthe was founded with Glynis Peterson (now Burke) and John Oglow. The group released two cassettes in 1986: Like Aversion (edition of 10 copies) and Three of Swords (edition of 50 copies). Nepenthe had some ambitious ideas about performing, but decided to test the waters on stage by creating the alter ego of The Post Industrial Bar Band. Under this moniker, they produced a video (My Way) which was regularly aired on the local cable access video program Soundproof. PIBB performed once at Channel One Klub on January 29th, 1986 (click to see the poster). Nepenthe was also written up by "Paisly" in the April, 1986 issue of What the Hell - a local art fanzine (click to see the article). Although the group had officially disbanded by the end of 1986, a number of collaborations with Glynis were done up until 1988. A video of a cover version of the song Low Rider (originally by War) was produced in 1988 and Glynis was also a founding member (along with James Rigney) of the Laissez-faire label project in 1987 which released a compilation cassette called Define By Example. |
